Rebranding

What a week! I was watching the Obama Inauguration speech again. The similarities between this speech and Bush’s for his second term are striking. Check it out.(about 10 minutes in).
Also felt odd listening to all these mentions of the divine. Kinda like “My God is better than your God!” blah blah blah.

It’s time!

Another year comes to a close tonight. And with that there are sure to be many new year’s resolutions made and broken, usually within the first week of 2009. Here are mine, in no particular order.
1. Improve my Korean: Now, this is hard to judge as there is no definite end. But I will study to take the  S-TOPIK [...]

Me & Dr John

Ah, the self help revolution! A wonder to behold. One wonders how humanity survived up to these trying times without the wisdom imparted by these charlatans. Hint: people would actually do something. My current favourite is from ‘The Secret’ and it’s teachers.
‘The Secret’, you may recall, made the “Law of Attraction” popular. One example of the [...]

Man of the Moment, November

Barack Obama became the first African-American to become president this week (in case you’ve been living in a cave).  There was an almost tangible feeling that this time things will be different. I hope they will be as the US has basically come full circle in less than four generations.
Here is his victory speech during the Democratic [...]

Birthday Post

Today is my birthday. And “Talk Like a Pirate Day”. I’ll post a pic of my students in pirate hats later.

On the bus yesterday a thought occurred to me. Only one, as any more may have overloaded my brain. There was an elderly woman standing on the bus and no-one gave their seat up for [...]

Killeroo

Something interesting from ninemsn

A man who was attacked by a kangaroo after he reportedly came between the marsupial and its pack while jogging down a suburban street is recovering in hospital.
The man, aged in his 50s, was in the outer Melbourne suburb of Sunbury when he was struck at around 1.20pm.
Paramedics arrived a short time [...]

For Me and You + ‘(wo)man of the moment’

Today is BBQ Day!! We are lucky that there is a pretty nice park right next to our block. Gonna have a good time.
We went to a new German-style bar near our work yesterday. Very nice place, especially because the first beer was free (Max only, no German beers) AND the tables had a personal [...]

Spring Post #1

Yes, Spring is here. The flowers are growing and blooming. I will try to get some photos up from the flower festival in Yeoido.
This week is also election week in Korea. If I were to vote/allowed to vote, I would vote for the guy bowing to everyone off the back of a moving truck. That’s [...]

‘Man of the Moment’

….goes to the little legend I saw during lunch.
I was at the Japanese fusion place downstairs from my work because curry was on the menu at school. I love curry, the Indian variety that is. But the first time we had curry at our school only four of us ate it. Three got food poisoning. [...]

‘Man of the Moment’

…goes to the fellow on Saturday night that was eating ddokboki with me. He said my Korean was really good when he heard me order, which is a white lie but it made my day.
